Although Vitamin D may NOT be effective in warding off the common cold, it plays a major role in maintaining blood levels of calcium and phosphorus, therefore an essential nutrient for healthy bones. Vitamin D  may also be beneficial for hypertension, because of the role it plays in balancing minerals in the blood.

Vitamin D is found in fish, eggs, fortified milk and cod liver oil. Alternatively, 10 minutes of sun exposure per day is thought to be enough to maintain good levels in the blood.
