The 17th Annual Heart of the Hamptons Ball was on June 29th, 2013 at the Hay-ground School in Bridgehampton. The event grossed over $500,000 thanks to the efforts of the committee and honorees. Guests included Star Jones, Rosanna Scotto, Dr. James Taylor and Eric Trump. The evening included delicious heart healthy food under the guidelines of consulting nutritionist Layne Lieberman-Liebelson, local wines, a silent auction and live music by That 70s Band. This year highlighted the importance of preventing childhood obesity. Today one out of every three American kids and teens is overweight or obese. This disease causes a broad range of health problems including Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. Children deserve access to healthier foods in school and parents should strive to be good role models by leading healthy lifestyles.
